Hair Restoration Cost

If you are considering hair transplantation, you are likely considering the cost as well. At Ohio Facial Plastics, we understand what an important decision permanent hair restoration is, and we want to make it an invaluable investment towards your quality of life and self-confidence. Dr. Sumit Bapna brings exceptional skill and knowledge to your Follicular Unit Transfer (FUT) or NeoGraft Hair Transplant procedure. He is proud to be the only double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon in Ohio that offers the revolutionary NeoGraft system. You can be rest assured that your procedure will be performed by a reputable double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon in a safe, state-of-the-art facility. Our commitment at Ohio Facial Plastics is to deliver the most natural results using the most advanced hair loss technology available.

How much do hair implants cost?

The cost of hair implants is different for each patient. You will be charged primarily based on the number of grafts needed to address your specific hair loss concerns. To gain a more accurate estimate of your expected hair transplantation cost, a consultation with Dr. Bapna is best. He will listen to your hair restoration goals and calculate the amount of donor hair you have available and evaluate your donor hair type (color, texture, etc).

Your cost can also vary depending on which hair restoration procedure you choose. We offer both Follicular Unit Extraction and Follicular Unit Transfer. The FUE method tends to be more expensive because it uses an individual follicular unit removal. However, patients must also take into consideration that the FUE method using NeoGraft does not leave linear scarring. A permanent hair transplant procedure can range from $4000 to $20,000 in cost, depending on your individual needs and preferences.

At Ohio Facial Plastics, we work hard to ensure you get the most value for your investment. We respect your budget needs and your desire to have a healthy, full head of hair sooner rather than later. Therefore, our office team can work with you to find easy, affordable payment options or financing plans when needed.

Is Hair Restoration Covered by Insurance?

Most health insurance companies do not cover the cost of hair-restoration procedures, because they are typically cosmetic in nature. For hair restoration to be covered by medical insurance, it needs to be considered a medical necessity.

A medical necessity is defined as a service or supply in health care that is essential in diagnosing or treating an illness, injury, condition, disease, or its symptoms. The service or supply must be necessary to meet the accepted standards of medicine. Medically necessary services or supplies also depend on each state’s laws and regulations. Public health insurance inclusions will also be different from private health insurance coverage.

Hair-restoration procedures may be included in your health insurance coverage if hair loss is caused by the following:

  • Illness
  • Accident or burn injury
  • Mental distress

If your hair loss is caused by an illness or medication, you may be referred to a doctor first to ensure your eligibility.

Patients who have lost their hair from a traumatic accident may be able to get coverage. In this situation, the hair-restoration procedure may be considered reconstructive.

Hair loss can cause significant mental distress for some patients. If hair-restoration candidates are diagnosed with gender dysphoria, some health insurance companies may potentially cover the procedure.

If you are unsure about whether your hair-restoration procedure is eligible for insurance coverage, contact your health insurance provider with all inquiries.

Factors That Can Affect the Cost of Hair-Restoration Procedures

To help you prepare financially for the total cost of hair-restoration procedures, you must consider the products and services involved in the entire process. Payment for the work done by the surgeon will be included in the price. The total number of grafted follicular units affects the price, as do anesthesia fees. During the recovery period, you may be prescribed pain or anti-inflammatory medications, which are purchased separately.

Some hair-restoration procedures may require several appointments. It is important to ask about the possible number of sessions needed to see the results you are aiming for. This and all other questions can be addressed during your consultation with Dr. Bapna.
